Wandering Willful Women

As today was a bit more eventful than most. My friend Myra, whom I met through Becky, invited me over for lunch...which was wonderful. Later Myra and I headed to Hoboken to wander around for a bit. The afternoon was hot and humid and yet again I was not dressed properly for the weather. Our apartment had been a bit on the chilly side when I awoke so that is why I opted to wear jeans and a t-shirt. We walked into Foot Locker for some browsing and Myra came across a pair of shoes she had been planning on purchasing. While I waited for her to purchase the shoes, I checked out the miscellaneous items around the store. A man stood in front of her in line and he looked to be of college age, not muscular, but fit, had a fun sense of style and a beautiful face....mmmm. Anyway, at that moment, Myra filled me in on the fact that Hoboken had a university (or maybe a college) within the city limits. Becky some how forgot to tell me about this little piece of information. The beautiful faced man made his purchases and soon left the store. Did I mention that he had an acoustic guitar slung over his shoulder?? Well, he did. We decided to walk down the street and check out the different stores. The day was pretty humid and warm, Myra suggested that we go and get some Italian ice (or maybe it's something different, I cannot remember to save my life). i got watermelon and Myra got the coconut flavor. We sat on a little bench on the sidewalk and enjoyed them in the shade.

After getting our fill of our tasty treats we headed to the mall so i could buy a new pair of shades, since I thought Gizmo had ran off with them. It was my lucky day, because at the first sun glass kiosk I found a pair which were the perfect shape and fit...and there was a sale, "Buy two for $20." Originally, I had only seen the sign which said, "One pair for $12.95." I thought that was a pretty good deal but then the salesman told me that I should get another pair and it was the best deal ever. I love getting good deals. I managed to buy a black and brown pair of shades. the brown pair really makes me feel like I'm a rock star of some sort...they're huge and bug-like. We returned around 4:30pm and I decided I needed a nap before getting ready to play some football with the league Becky and I joined.

Tonight, Becky couldn't make it for the game because she had to work. I did learn a very important lesson however. When a man (in general) says that they are leaving at 6 o'clock in the evening to make our game at 7 o'clock with a half hour drive he really means that they are leaving at 6:20-ish in the evening. I arrived a little early thinking that i wouldn't have to wait very long...low and behold...I should have arrived a little late to really be "on-time". I met more of the team members this week because more of the male members were able to make the game. Richie, Rich, john, Ameera, Diana (pronounced Dee-ana), Jerome, Jared, and about 9 other guys which I cannot remember their names. This game we were tied at half time at 13 points but were trounced with another defeated victory. I really enjoyed having something to do on my Thursday nights and the company is awesome as well! they are all the nicest people, very sociable, and very approachable; especially since they keep getting new members...specifically new women team members. I found that I have a talent for catching a football during the game and just for practice, but throwing the ball is an entirely different story. I also need to remember to stay short after the hike. There's something about when the QB has the ball because he seems very hesitant to throw the ball a longer distance to a fellow female player than a male player. My goal for the summer is to be able to catch the ball from a farther distance than just a couple feet from the previous down.

After the game Diana, Jerome, Jared, myself and another guy all rode back to Jersey City with Rickie and stopped to get a bit to eat. Richie grew up in the area so he took us to White mana Diner, known for it's appearance from the 1939 World's Fair NY. I could feel my arteries clogging after stepping through the doorway from the street...Richie called it a greasy spoon-type of place. And that's exactly what it was. there were tables further into the restaurant with a bar style seating around the rounded counter in the front. A cook/cashier woman stood in the center of this alcove with the flat iron stove/grill
in front of her. The cheese burgers reminded me of what White Castles cheese burgers but some how I figured that these sandwiches would go straight through me. This diner is open 24/7 and closed on Christmas day. From the story Richie told, when the bar across the street closes in the whee hours of the morning, then this diner is packed and sometimes there is even a line outside of people who are waiting for service. While we were waiting for our orders, Richie was trying to explain to some of his co-workers the definition of why fruit punch was called bug juice as one of the beverage options. I found this quite amusing because I already know the answer...and seriously i should know after 5 straight years of girl scout camp. We had bug juice every day or at least every other day. Wow...city people.
