First Block of the Month
I also, want to point out that this is my first large quilt. And true to form, I hardly ever follow the directions to the T, so of course, I altered the setting block pattern to optimize the "swirl" effect.
Quite happy with how this quilt turned out.

Pretty Paper Post-It Pig
This origami paper pig was made from Post-It paper. It was a gift from a fabulous site called ThinkGeek.com If you haven't perused this site before, I'm recommending it to you now. I also received a mini pet cactus. It was a virtual pet that grew inside of a jar. And of course, you can't forget the plush sushi toy. The Post-It paper is a little bit different than just creating your own origami items, as one side has a sticky side, but they are a lot of fun to make.

Just a Little Blood
It was just a little blood. During the 4th month of 2009, I changed jobs and I found myself getting to be more creative. Among some of the new skills, I've learned about the world of quilting. It's quite an interesting world.A week before Christmas, I had a class that we were making a quilt, so within a few days, I worked on a quilt. I pieced the top, machine quilted it, and then put on the binding.
While hand sewing the binding (with a straw needle), I mis-judged where my needle was going and pricked my thumb. As I watched the spot where my needle went in, the blood came. And so, I with my camera, had to document the moment. But the quilt is completed and my finger has healed.

Nerdy Boys or Pretty Girls
I went shopping with my mother, sans a head covering. On our way into the store, I was explaining that it's hard to find hats that fit my head. My skull is larger than most people's, it doesn't have the inverted shelf that Caucasian skull's have, basically...it's hard to find a hat that actually comes down over my ears. As we're in the store, I'm optimistic and try on some of the women's winter wear apparel. It's pretty depressing as, they are too small.
As we peruse through the rest of the store, we pass the men's outer wear section. Then we see the mecca of hats. All I can see are hats that may fit my large skull. I was right! They did fit. In my quest to find the right hat, I tried on almost all of hats that were and ended up choosing 2. After trying the epic amount of hats on, I felt as though electric should be extending out from my finger tips.
When we got back to my parent's house, my dad made this great comment, "Those hats for for nerdy boys or pretty girls. I think they look better on most girls than on boys." I got the brown hat with the brown polyester fur and then I got a more versatile black hat with polyester fur. I'm looking forward to wearing them to work on Monday.

A Full Moon for the Start of 2010
I thought I should start out 2010 with a blog post. As it's been a long time since my last post.Last night I went and saw the movie Avatar...which was FANTASTIC! We went to the 8:30 showing and by the time we got out of the theater, we had time to have pie before midnight.
Happy New Year! As I awoke this morning, I was welcomed by rays reaching through my curtains. It was quite refreshing, yet I knew better. It's January 1, 2010, in Iowa. We've had very chilly days in December. Today the high is 8 degrees Fahrenheit. Currently it's 4 degrees but feels like negative 12 degrees. Ahhh-mazing. This writer, hasn't feared out the door yet.
