Becky and I started out weekend off with a bang because we got up early so we could meet her friend, Tsu-Ching at Penn Station. She was coming in from long Island. We met up with her, walked around Downtown for a while and then decided to take the Staten Island ferry. however, we found out that the arrivals and departure times are more spread out than in the afternoon. While we waited for the next ferry to arrive, Tsu-Ching and Becky read through their tour guides for Staten Island and I took pictures of them doing this. We rode the ferry there and then exited and returned through the turn style to catch the ferry back to return to Manhattan. Afterward, we walked through Battery Park, saw the usual things people with their tables selling all sorts of "new York" paraphernalia, waving Statues of Liberties. and of course hordes of people.
Before we entered the park, however, a blind man with his seeing eye dog, asked if someone coudl direct him to the nearest bus stop. Becky, Tsu-Ching , and I obliged to his needs and escorted him. I was the lucky one to be on his escort and so he told us about his attraction to Asian women...a little on the strange side...oh well. Tsu-Ching went to purchase some souvenirs while Becky and I tried to see this man's friend he was supposed to meet up with. He told us that his friend would be in a wheel chair and she didn't have a cell phone and to top things off, he was supposed to meet this woman at one o'clock and it was 1:45pm almost 2:00pm. He checked the time with his watch, which was pretty cool...from a glance this watch looked as though it wasn't any different from any other watch a non-blind person would have, but the glass face could be un-hinged so he could feel where the clock hands were positioned. He proceeded in asking Becky for her number and as she led him to the nearest bus stop I waited. After all this had happened, Tsu-Ching and I wondered how he could tell if we were of an Asian decent or not, since she is Taiwanese and I am Korean American, we were stumped. Then I figured that he could probably tell because Tsu-Ching had a little accent. Becky recommended a place where she used to go for meals when she lived in an apartment near the New York Plaza. It's called Amish Market...they had an array of selections in food, fruit, deli sandwiches, sushi rolls, pretty much everything on the 3rd rock from the sun. The people assisting customers didn't look like they were Amish, but my assumption was that the owners must have some ties to that life style. I had cooked California rolls, Becky got another type of rolls, and Tsu-Ching go t a tuna salad sandwich. For our adventrues we saw; the famous bull, the New York Plaza, the WTC site, Trinity Church, Battery Park, and we had taken the Staten Island Ferry. WE parted ways with Tsu-Ching at WTC and then headed home after about five hours of fun in the city.
Our friend, Kenny, was hosting a birthday party over on the peninsula and had invited us to join him and his friends for a themed party...the white trash party. The poster was pretty amazing for this shin-dig. People were dressed in their most "white trash" attire...cut off jean shorts, white tanks with cigarette burns/holes, trucker hats etc. it was all very amusing. They grilled hot dogs and hamburgers, with coolers, a tent, different types of beverages and camping chairs. There was volleyball and a "Who can toss the baby the farthest" contest (they were baby dolls of course.) We ended the day with helping Kenny unpack his car and going out to dinner at Amelia's.
