My day started with going to church with Myra and Ed. They had invited me to go a few weeks ago and finally our schedules smoothed out. The church is located on the Lower East Side and it's in an auditorium for a women's nursing college. The service reminded me a lot of my church at home. they had a worship band; drums, two guitars, and a bass. There was a very prominent difference however, the congregation, majority Asian Americans, with some non-Asian people, and in Marion, Iowa, the congregation is prominently Caucasian Americans and maybe on a good day one handful of diversity (non-white people). but that's Iowa for you, the Asian or African American population is very slim to none. I'm not trying to bad mouth Iowa, but it's very clear that some Iowans are not as open minded as others about change or the fact that the United States is a melting pot of different cultures and ethnicity After the church service, Ed & Myra had to head out to make it to Ed's sister's engagement party. They dropped me off at the train station and I headed back to Jersey City to meet up with Rebecca for our afternoon plans.
As I climbed the stairs to the apartment I could smell chlorine or bleach wafting from underneath the door. I entered the room and realized that Rebecca had been cleaning the apartment while I was out. She also organized my stuff into boxes which was very nice of her. Normally I'm the one re-arranging things in the apartment. After having a bite to eat we headed out to East village for a World Cup party. The place for the party just so happened to be in an area where the train stops are far and few between. We had decided to take the 21 bus after getting off the subway, but we had read the sign incorrectly and just decided to walk to make up the time we'd have to wait for the next bus. We walked along Houston (not pronounced like a city in Texas, rather a building one has in a city suburb or out in the country) and finally we arrived to our destination. We climbed up three flights of stairs and after opening the door to a very packed room crammed with people, we had made it. Our friend Myra was hosting this party in her friend Josh's apartment with a roof entrance. The party was pretty happy since most people were rooting for Italy to win in the final match of the 2006 World Cup. There was grilling of hot dogs & hamburgers on the roof with a rubber maid garbage container filled with ice and beverages. I unfortunately had a very long Sunday filled with another engagement for the evening so I left after only a couple hours. I met more of Myra's cousins...Carl and Carissa (I have short term memory loss with people's names...so I could be incorrect about her name) and luckily they were leaving around the same time as I was and we walked from Avenue B and 3rd Street to 14th Street and 1st Avenue. We parted ways and I went on my way to the filming of Yo Mamma in Brooklyn.
