All Fiction...

To be or not to be....that is the question.

A fictional story.

Joe is your typical male. He's gorgeous, tall, well built, tan and has a certain way with words which make any woman weak in the knees. Jess is down to earth, creative, friendly, and very loyal to the people around her. In a perfect world these two species would never meet. However, on a chilly day in late January, they meet for coffee, after corresponding through emails and text messages for weeks prior to this meeting. They hit it off and find themselves hanging out, watching movies, and enjoying each other's company. This goes on a little over 3 months. Joe finally gets around to telling Jess that he's been thinking about how they seem to really get a long with one another and how much he'd like to make the next step with their relationship and says that he wants them to be exclusive one night. Jess is a little naive about relationships and asks a good friend of hers about what happened the night before with Joe to make sure that he's implying that they'll only be dating one another. Jess's friend tells her it's quite probable. However the dis-clarification, made Jess uneasy, so Jess did what she thought any other woman would do...she sent Joe a text message to re-affirm that they are on the same page from the night before.

Joe in return, blows up at her, through a very heated text message and says that he takes it all back. With this text message, Joe cuts all forms of communication with Jess. Jess, being the good person that she is, tries to use other forms of communication and sends him one last parting gift. Jess moves on from that experience and continues to go out with other men and then finds herself, thinking about Joe and how thing ended. Time goes by, life emerges, Jess finds other things to do with her free time.

Out of the blue on a dark morning in July, Jess is awoken by the vibration of her phone. Sleepily, she grabs out in the darkness of her room to reach for the phone. The bright LCD screen flashes, "New Text Message". Jess, squints in the darkness to read the message. In her half asleep state, Jess reads the message and recognizes the sender...it's from the man who cut her out of his life months ago. She sends a response, shuts her phone and rolls over to get back to sleep. However, her phone continues to beep indicating that there is an un-read message in her inbox. Jess realizes that there are four messages from Joe which, she reads out of order in her state of confusion.

The next day, Joe sends her text messages expressing his hasty actions with his decisions and wants to get together to have a chat with her. Jess, with better judgment ignores his requests and goes on about her day as if he'd never sent anything. Early the next morning, Joe pleads with Jess and says that he just want to chat with her and nothing else. Again, Jess, ignores his requests and says that she'll talk to him when the sun is up. Joe continues to text her and Jess decides to end the madness and meet up with Joe. Before she leaves her warm bed, she tells him that the chat had better be good since she was getting out of bed to meet with him. Finally, Joe calls Jess and convinces her that she won't regret meeting with him.

Jess and Joe have their conversation and he pleads with her to take him back. He explains that he over reacted and was irrational. Joe also mentions that he's been dreaming about her since their last conversation back in early May and he explains how he's never remembered his dreams before and how he just can't understand why he can't get her out of his head. This is all fine and dandy to Jess and she explains that he broke her heart in May and a broken heart is less trusting the second time around. Joe tells Jess, that all he wanted was her and no one else. They can even do the whole "boyfriend/girlfriend" thing...with meeting friends and family. He just doesn't want to lose her again. Jess is flooded with emotions, but feels numb to his request. Finally Jess explains that she'll need time to really think if he's someone to pursue again.

Days later, Jess decides that everyone should get a second chance. Jess tells Joe that they'll have to take baby steps into this relationship...it's only fair after the way he ended things. Jess and Joe's relationship flourishes and things seem to be working out. However, in the coming years, Joe excepts a job out of state and they try to make the distance work. Months go by and they do not see one another and find that their bond cannot hold with their lives heading in different directions. Things come to an end and they both move on to other people, but they always seem to be have the other locked away in their subconscious to meet in their dreams.

Nothing ventured...nothing gained.
