Previous 6 Weeks

The previous 6 weeks have been interesting to say the least. With flooding occurring the end of the second week of June, has turned my work life upside down. We've been displaced now, for 6 weeks, and have temporarily moved to the front room/dining room of one of the co-owner's home. We're sharing six tables for 10 people; four people sharing the dining room table, and the other six sharing 5-3.5 foot tables. We all have our own computers from the office and are working from just one monitor. 6 weeks ago we all had our own desks, two monitors, and space.

After going to a house to work, instead of an office space, I can't seem to stay in on the weekends. It's like I never leave my house or any house for that matter. I find that I try to get out of my house on weekends and find other places to spend my time. I frequently find myself going to Barnes and Noble and checking out new books or clearance items and then end up leaving the store with some type of purchase.

Today is the 2nd day of the sixth week of working in our remote location. We're located in a residential area which is like a woodland preserve compared to the streets and pavement of downtown. On my morning commute to our temporary office, I've seen more wildlife. For instance, this morning I saw a fawn just standing at an intersection as though it were observing the motor vehicle inhabitants in its' home. Early on, while I was making several trips out to Mendards, I had to slow my speed to a crawl and wait for a wild turkey to cross the road...and it was massive! I usually drive with my windows down to let in the cool morning breeze. The sun shines in through my open driver's side window between the trees. All in all, the drive is quite pleasant.

Most people stick to one type of transmission throughout their lives. Since we've been working from a remote location, my car repertoire has increased significantly...normally I drive a manual transmission and I would have to say that it's my preferred type to drive. I've had the opportunity to drive both of my boss' vehicles-one being an automatic BMW (probably late 90's model), then a Toyota hybrid, it's definitely an interesting type of vehicle to drive. There's not insertion of a key and to start the vehicle you just have to push the "power" button. Also, it's very quite...like a ghost driver. Then I got to drive another BMW which is fairly new and is a 6-speed manual...and I have to say that it was great! However, to start this model, it's similar to the hybrid, in terms of pushing a button to start the ignition. And reverse is "over and up" to the right from the first position. And of course, with every manual vehicle the clutch is different and always takes a little while for the driver to adjust. Besides, stalling out at the first stop sign, I managed to get the hang of it by the time I returned from running errands (which totals about 20 minutes).

I do have flood pictures, but it's just depressing to look at them and I've found that they can be found all over the internet. I will not be posting any at this time.
