2. Oblivious observer.
3. Incompetence.
Lacking tact, would be a phrase I would use to describe my boss (which is one of many bosses). For instance today, my boss comes to my desk and says, "I need you to set things up for today." I haven't the slightest clue in the world to what he's talking about, but have an idea of the tool to start the process. Of course he's
walking into a meeting and doesn't give me any other details. I'm resourceful and ask my colleagues about the process and get their feedback and figure out how to use the hole puncher, on my own.
Later, my boss, comes back with some documents in hand and starts going through the process of how to put the paper in and which line to set the guide to, etc. Then he tells me the importance of getting everything even, so there's even space between the top and bottom set of holes. It's an easy concept and process, yet he feels that I can't punch the holes to his standards and insists that I punch both the front and back cover along with some scrap paper. Just to make sure that I can manage using the less than high-tech device. All the while, as I'm lining up the guides, he's standing no more than 2 feet from me with his arms crossed just monitoring my actions.
Another instance of his tactlessness, he told me that he wanted to send a package out, the cheapest way possible. I then go ahead and spend most of the afternoon, checking prices, double checking prices, finding the appropriate shipping supplies, etc. When I'm about 95% done and ready to put the last piece of tape on the package, he comes to my desk; tears the package apart, says that by putting his original box (3"x2.5"x4") in a slightly longer box, "It clearly has more mass than the smaller box." Takes all of the contents out, cuts up each box and places the item into an envelope with the cut-up box pieces and then leaves the mess at my desk. The kicker to this last story...my desk is also the front desk and has a counter top--which is where he set up his shop of destruction. Of course, I couldn't really leave my desk, since I was working and trying to ignore the tactless actions of my superior.
Oblivious observer...describes my boss, in yet another perfect way. During mid 2008, pre-flood, I received some duties from a co-worker who left the general area of our office location. I've been completing the tasks exactly the way that she did. And yet, my boss, asks me things about these processes, that I would have thought he would have been aware of. That would be a negative, since he's been oblivious to anything that she was doing, when she was working here. Another detail would be that she's the boss' daughter. Boo! for small family owned businesses!
Incompetence...seems to be how my boss views my abilities to accomplish assigned tasks. Everything I do, he turns around and changes it to include 10 other things. Or he reviews it meticulously and finds flaws that shouldn't even matter, but a lass, he's the boss.

whats really funny about the shipping thing is this...for the amount they are paying you to work there per hour and the amount of time you had to spend to find the cheapest shipping, he probably ended up losing money...
