First Wedding

I was in my friend Cathy's wedding on Saturday, one of five bridesmaids.

The colors for her wedding were a monochromatic purple scheme...which turned out really great in the end. The dress sequence went, Amy in egg plant (she was the maid of honor), Erin in purple, Liz in a light lilac, I was in the Victorian lilac, then Kayla was in a regular lilac. We all had the same fabric, which probably helped a lot.

Cathy's outlook on everyone picking out the dresses was, "You can whatever style you want, it just has to be floor lenght, and you can't have the same color as someone else." Erin, Amy, and myself all ordered our dresses where Cathy had purchased her dress so we got a 15% discount on our dresses...thank goodness! I think Liz and Kayla ordered theirs from different bridal stores as well. One of the many times, I went to look at dresses, the store only had really huge sizes available so I didn't really have a very good idea of how the dress actually look since there were several large binder clips holding the extra fabric in the back. When it finally arrived at the store...after four months of waiting, I took it home and tried it on and it was HUGE! I looked at the size, it was a 10 and I was swimming in the excess fabric. Cathy's soon to be mother in law, Debbie, had told her that she would do all of the alterations for the bridesmaids.

Back to the wedding, the ceremony had to have been one of the shortest ceremonies, I've been to. I'm definitely not complaining. The day started out by going to the reception hall and decorating, which we did in a record time of 30 minutes. Then it was off to get our hair and make-up done. Our hair took a lot longer than expected so we were late getting back to the church for pictures by an hour. But things went smoothly after that little hiccup in the schedule.

After the ceremony we headed out around town in a stretch H2, which Cathy's dad had rented for the bridal party, all 12 of us. The limo had champagne so we toasted with that and then decided that we wanted something else to drink and stopped at a Hy-Vee to pick up some Amaretto, sour mix, and beer. The groomsmen were all of Austin's friends from his childhood and they're beer drinkers.

Once, we had toured around CR for a while, we then headed to the reception, where we were announced as we walked in. Then the groomsmen handed us cans of silly string. I think I'd only heard of people doing this from television, but went with the flow. At least they had the right idea to aim the spray at Austin, so they wouldn't ruin Cathy's dress. The reception went until midnight and then a group of us decided that we would go out to a bar in town. Austin's parents had shirts made to say that we survived their wedding. Since it was mid-March and we were in Iowa...the weather was pretty chilly. We decided to wear these shirts out to the bar as jackets. All in all the night was FABULOUS!
